Trial prices and renewal terms
The six-week subscription cost €9.90 for print or €5.90 for the digital edition. Under the advertised terms, it ended automatically, with no cancellation required.
Readers could instead choose to continue for at least another 12 months and receive a €100 cash bonus. After that minimum term, the subscription could be canceled monthly.
The promotion excluded customers with an active subscription and was not linked to a subscription cancellation or other promotional offers.
Bonus payments and other subscription options
The terms specified delivery of the REWE voucher about 14 days after an order. The €100 cash bonus for the continuation option was due about four weeks after receipt of the first payment. GA Media GmbH & Co. KG reserved the right to reclaim the bonus or its value if the contract ended early or the subscriber refused payment or paid late.
For questions, the page lists the customer service number 0641 / 3003-77, available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.
Separately, GA Media offers longer-term digital ePaper subscriptions with cash bonuses: €75 for a 12-month subscription or €120 for a 24-month subscription.
The newspaper's history and ownership
First published in 1750 as the Giesser Wochenblatt, the Gießener Anzeiger is one of Germany's oldest daily newspapers. It celebrated its 275th anniversary at an event in Gießen on March 31, 2025.
GA Media GmbH & Co. KG publishes the newspaper. The title belongs to Mittelhessische Druck- und Verlagsgesellschaft (MDV), which acquired it from the VRM media group effective October 1, 2021.
MDV is part of Zeitungsholding Hessen. The Ippen group owns 80% of that holding company, while MDV owns the remaining 20%. MDV itself belongs to the Rempel publishing family of Gießen.
Circulation, printing and editorial partnerships
IVW figures cited by Wikipedia put the newspaper's sold circulation at 7,234 copies in the third quarter of 2026, down 80.6% from 1998. Subscriptions represent 92.4% of sold circulation.
The newspaper closed its own printing press at the end of 2017 for economic reasons. Since early January 2024, it has received content covering news beyond its region through a partnership with RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND), part of the Madsack media group.
At the time the partnership began, RND said it supplied more than 70 daily newspapers, with a combined print circulation of two million copies and 99 million monthly digital visits.
